Broadside Poster
POSTER DESIGN
Project Overview
Broadside Poster is a project that prompted to design a poster from a poem or song of choice, then create an integrated Instagram post.
My project based on the poem “Underface” by Shel Silverstein.
“Underface” by Shel Silverstein
Underneath my outside face
There's a face that none can see.
A little less smiley,
A little less sure,
But a whole lot more like me
The poem explores the idea that individuals adopt different "faces" or roles throughout the day to navigate specific social situations and relationships. Consequently, this constant performance obscures the individual's true self or authentic identity from others.
Key words: layers, face, identity, under, hidden.
Design System
While the poem was originally intended for children, my design deliberately steers the interpretation toward a more serious and mature direction. The visual language contrasts a modern display typefacewith body text influenced by a handwritten letter style. This serious tone is further underscored by a deliberately simple color palette of red and pink.
Design elements: Transparency, layering, minimalism
